Hi everybody, it’s Oliver! 🙂
I am here to announce, with great pride, that I have graduated to the ‘big boy bed’!!
It’s about time, right?!?!
Geeze…my humans waited long enough to let me snuggle and sleep with them at night. They said something about how they didn’t fully trust me because I would still have some accidents in the house & didn’t want me to try and play with my brother in the middle of the night. But I mean come on, my mom isn’t the only one who needs beauty sleep.
I’m very happy to say that I proved them wrong & am such a good boy! I’m still learning some of the “rules” of being on this HUGE bed. Apparently, the humans claim spots and sides. Welp my spot is wherever I am comfortable. I’ve been doing some observing and noticed that Banks likes to sleep in between moms legs, so I take the spot under her arm…for now 😉
LOOK! I feel like I’m on top of the world! This is such a cozy, comfy big bed!!!
I love waking the humans up with kisses instead of crying to let them know I have to go pee pee!
It’s been such a great week!! Mom seems a little upset because she said I’m growing up too fast and she needs me to stay small forever. I don’t think she realizes I’m not going to get much bigger…..she’s crazy.
Well, I think it’s time for a nap. Hope you all have a great day! 🙂
Like I said previously, I am a collector. And when I found out that you could cartoonize your pet and put them on clothes and accessories…I didn’t really have much of a choice but to have my credit card out and ready. If you are interested in doing this (I’m really not sure why you wouldn’t be 😉 ) see below for some information:
- Select category
- You can cartoonize anything from dogs to hamsters
- Choose your breed
- Some breeds have a “+” next to them, which typically means there are a few different shapes or fur types
- Once you select that, customize colors, spots, eyes and accessories so it looks just like your pet! 🙂
- Now…the fun begins!! 🙂 After the cartoon is looking like your furbaby, click the ‘next’ button until you reach the screen where if offers the option to “Create Products”
I got shirts this time, but I have my eyes on a bunch of other stuff (like the mug, key chain and food bowl) 🙂
Hi everyone! Banks here! 🙂
As you all know, last week my little brother won first prize for best trick at the S.T.A.R.S festival! I guess you could say I was proud…(actually, I was just glad he wasn’t standing next to me…being annoying as usual 😛 ). As part of his winnings we got a free month of Barkbox! Of course our humans let us share! Gosh, I love them so much for that – the box smelled so good, I had to get a peek inside!
We got all sorts of awesome stuff! I’m not sure how we are expected to share..Oliver will have to pry this stuff out of my strong little paws.
Time for a nap!
Love you all ❤ -Banks
I guess it’s time to admit that summer is officially over. 😦 I told myself I wouldn’t decorate for Fall/Halloween until the first weekend of October, and that’s just what I did. I’m still in denial…the summer went by too fast!! I don’t go too crazy with Fall decorating – I feel like October/November happen in a blink, then all of a sudden it’s time to decorate for Christmas.
I have a lot of Halloween decorations thanks to my cousin, who loves this holiday and nominated our house for the annual Halloween Soiree 😉 The garage and basement are they only things that get crazy decorated for Halloween…which I haven’t gotten to yet.
Due to the fact that I have bins full of decorations, I wasn’t going to buy anything this year, but I found some gems that I couldn’t not buy. Anything I see with dachshunds…I think I just black out and next thing I know I’m swiping my credit card. To make myself feel a little better, I like to say that I am a collector. And I cannot stop collecting. I added some pictures of the fall decorations & other things I ‘collected’ so far…more decorating is in order for the party, but I’m only one person…with two dogs who demand all my attention :-P.
^ Candy corn bow ties I made for the babies ^
I also added some must have dachshund items at the end of this post. I will have to keep those on my wishlist for next year 😉
I love Target even more for stocking these awesome dachshund skeletons. I couldn’t get just one, obviously! The sign was a steal from the dollar bins there as well ($3)!
The dish towel below is from Homegoods – there were only two left, so I bought both of them and gave the other to a fellow weenie lover (Indie’s mom) 🙂
A couple shirts I had to buy for the fall sweater weather 🙂 The black sweatshirt is from beangoods – I think I own just about every shirt from there & the grey sweater is from J.Crew 🙂
Things I need for next year:
Happy Halloweenie Sign
Happy Fall, ya’ll ❤
Hi everybody! 🙂
Yesterday was awesome!! Our besties Indie and Callie came over to play! 😀 We had so much fun chasing each other around the yard. Every time Indie comes over, the humans always want us to stop playing for a few minutes just to have what they call a photoshoot. We’re okay with it I guess…they end up giving us treats if we sit still for one or two, then we run away.
After we ran around the backyard, our humans took our squad to to this place with so many dogs and humans. Mom said it was the S.T.A.R.S. Fall Festival to Benefit Animals… all we know is that it was a wienerful time. There were so many things, people and butts to sniff!! We ran into a lot of our ‘cousins’…and yep, we sniffed their butts too!
We entered the photo contest and our picture was up on the bulletin board at the festival!! Unfortunately, we lost to a silly cat 😦 Mom said we were cuter and that we should have won ;-). We also got noticed a few times because of our photo being posted…So, that was a win in our books!
Speaking of winning… 😉 Look who won first place in the best trick contest!!! Stole the judges hearts with his “BANG” play dead” trick! Our parents are so proud! (Autographs available upon request) 😛
Well, time for a nap….we are still pooped from yesterdays fun!
Love you all!
❤ Banks & Oliver
Jess here, not the weens 😉
I recently submitted Banks and Oliver’s photos to be featured in a doggy book that is to be published next fall. (Fingers crossed the babies make it in it!) Along with the photo, they asked you to submit a reason why you are totally in love with your dog, or something that is unique about them. I sat there and thought about it for a pretty long time. Isn’t every dog unique? How the heck do you explain to someone (who doesn’t know you) how much you love your dog? I typed this huge, long (almost novel) entry to try and stand out with very specific stories. I reread it a bunch of times making sure it was perfect. After the third time reading it, I deleted it all. I replaced it with a short, simple and honest response:
Everything they do makes me happy – isn’t that what love is all about? They just exist. And they make my life so much better by just being.
Without them I wouldn’t be a crazy dog lady, I would just be a lady. Without them, our home would just be a house.
I love these two little heartbeats at my feet. It’s the best kind of love; unconditional ❤
We are ready for Dogtober. 🙂
But, for some reason we have a feeling our mom is going to go a little to crazy with costumes and photos this month.
Oh, well. She better stock up on those treats…we don’t work for free. 😛
Yesterday was National Coffee Day and we got to celebrate with some puppachinos! Well, not exactly..mom just put a couple treats in the mugs…but we’re not complaining 😉
As high class, spoiled rotten dogs, we eat nothing but the best. Our chef prepares a top notch meal for us every week, and we would like to take the time out of our busy schedule to share our favorite meal.
Along with Wellness Brand Food, our mom likes to make us something extra special. Look at all this yummy stuff she puts in it:
She takes the ground turkey (about 1 lb.) and browns it in the frying pan with about 1 tablespoon of olive oil. At the same time, the rice is boiling…while all that is on the stove, she chops up all the yummy stuff:
1 Small Zuchini
1/3 Cup Spinach
Once all that is prepared, the meat is browned and the rice is tender, she mixes it all up and lets it sit in the pan for a few minutes (until the spinach is tender).
Once that is all set – let the food cool a little, then serve!
Can be refrigerated for about 1 1/2 weeks 🙂
Due to the dachshunds l o n g body and short stubby legs, they are prone to disk and back issues.
Here are some ways to avoid back problems:
- Decrease use of stairs. Climbing long flights of stairs puts excessive pressure on their discs and can strain the spine. It is recommended to use ramps, block stairs or simply supervise to make sure he doesn’t climb stairs. I’ve seen some affordable fold up ramps for sale on Amazon.
- Control their weight. Try to control your pups weight. I’ve read numerous articles and most say “if you cannot feel their ribs, they are most likely overweight”. Obviously this does not mean starve the poor thing, I know we all like to spoil our babies 🙂 However, you can portion their food (like humans would if they went on a diet). The packaging of your dog food usually indicated how much a dog of a certain weight should eat on a daily basis. If a dachshund is overweight, the spine will be strained and can lead to IVDD 😦
- No jumping on and off furniture. As much as they love jumping on and off furniture, it should be avoided as much as possible. You can purchase a little ramp or stairs to the bed/couch – It can take some time to train them to use the stairs or ramp…because they are so stubborn, but with some patience and lots of praise (and some treats) it is possible. (Banks jumps on and off the couch 80% of the time and we have really been trying to discourage it).
- Monitor mobility. It is important to keep on eye on your dog’s mobility. If he/she shows any unusual inactivity, discomfort or reluctance to take a walk or run, take him to the vet immediately. This can be critical. The longer you wait, the more serious the problem can get.
